What’s In My Bag

For Sarah Rock, a game of padel starts before she steps onto the court. Living in Koh Samui, the weather and time of day influence what she wears, but one rule remains: everything should coordinate. “My friends know that if they’re playing with me, we have to match,” she laughs. A former hockey and netball player, Sarah grew up wearing a uniform and still loves the sense of belonging that comes with coordinating her look. “I think it makes us feel more like a team if we’re wearing matching colours.” These days, she’s choosing the colours herself. From her signature scent to her must-have racket, here’s what she takes with her to play.

Gentle Fluidity by Maison Francis Kurkdjian

I often spritz this on before I play, it’s become something of a signature scent for me on the court, people can smell me before I’ve arrived.

Wilson Women’s Classic Tank  

I like colour and didn’t have navy in my wardrobe, I saw this and thought that it feels like part of my padel uniform especially when worn with a matching skirt. Living in Koh Samui, it covers my chest when I’m playing in the sun and it’s fitted but still gives me room to play. 

Bullpadel Vertex Argentina Racket 

My game’s improved so I got this padel racket as an upgrade. I was drawn to the colour but also I love the feel of this racket. You can break up with your racket, especially as you play more and that’s ok. You can’t play well without a racket that you love.

Prada Sunglasses

Sunglasses need to fit well when I’m playing a game and these really do. I also really like the shape of them, so I’ll keep them on afterwards if I’m having a coconut water at the club or watching a match.

Stanley The Quencher ProTour Flip Straw Tumbler  

We lived in LA for a while and everyone has a Stanley there so I was influenced into getting one. It’s big and it doesn’t break, plus I don’t want to drink from a plastic bottle so that was the real driver for me. I take it everywhere. 

Uniqlo Active Pleated Skort  

I play padel every day and will always choose a skirt or a dress. There’s something about how it feels and moves when I’m playing a game.

Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 

Living in a hot country, SPF is non-negotiable when I play. I’ve used this for years; it doesn’t run in my eyes, and it’s got a really nice sparkle to it. I don’t wear makeup, so it makes me feel like I’ve made an effort.

It’s hard to find a feminine padel bag but I get the most compliments with this bag, the Varley website should come with a warning! It’s really great and the perfect size. I have my eye on the navy one too…

On The Roger Trainers

I’ve worn On trainers for a long time and love them for their stability with all the speed changes and sideways movements that come with the game. Good trainers are so important to prevent injury.

Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment  

You’ll always catch me with some lipstick on; it was something my mum always used to wear. I really like this one because it’s vegan and has peptides for extra nourishment.

An edit of what’s worth taking to court. And the things you want to be seen with afterwards. Good layers, great accessories, objects with a point of view and the occasional purchase you don’t need, but very much want.
